Tribal Capacity Building and Adaptation Planning: The United States

Abstract This chapter, the first of our three focus chapters offers a detailed perspective on climate change story in United States and what one particular institution, Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) at Northern Arizona University, has been working to address climate-related concerns/issues. The chapter highlights not only human face change, but ways which previous colonial trauma exacerbates its impacts. Further, it explores how complex governance can be, when engaging with Indigenous needs aspirations, just addressing impacts out have voice decision-making table.
